Stage 1 of Patrick King’s foundation program, Green and Growing, is all about understanding, safety, and basic control. This is where your solid foundation begins.
By mastering the fundamentals of horsemanship, you’ll start to develop clear communication with your horse and gain control over each part of his body. In addition, you’ll start creating a positive balance between the four pillars of trust, understanding, confidence, and respect. Many of the common issues and challenges people encounter with their horses are solved at this stage.

- To ride like a part of your horse, connected with an independent seat
- How to unlock your horse’s mind, eliminating resistance and increasing confidence
- The proper leadrope and rein positions for controlling and directing each part of your horse
- How to simply maneuver your horse on the ground and under saddle
- The simple dynamics of canter leads
- How to get your horse’s cooperation with things like haltering, bridling, saddling, mounting, and more
- How to set your horse up to successfully negotiate obstacles like water crossings, jumps and more
- Basic trailer loading
