"All of our work with our horses should be treated as a form of bodywork... because it is."
- Patrick King
Patrick King and Jim Masterson have teamed up to collaborate on this one-of-a-kind clinic experience that merges classical in-hand work with bodywork - a combination that is truly unparalleled when it comes to developing your horse as a partner and helping them to move and perform to their highest potential.
If you are interested in learning to work with your horse, instead of on your horse, to unlock the keys to relaxation, mobility, engagement, and acceptance of the handler's aids, this is a clinic that you don't want to miss!
Participating in this clinic means you are getting 3 full days of learning about bodywork and in-hand work with hands-on instruction, coaching, lecture, and support from BOTH Patrick and Jim, throughout each day.

Jim Masterson was the equine bodywork therapist for the 2006 through 2014 WEG and World Endurance Championships, and for thousands of equine athletes competing on the AA level and in FEI World Cup, Pan American and World Equestrian Games competitions. He teaches a unique method of equine bodywork to horse owners and therapists in which the practitioner learns to read and use the responses of the horse to touch to release tension in key junctions of the body that most affect performance. The Masterson Method® is an effective method of bodywork that anyone can learn to use to improve performance, and open new levels of communication and trust with the horse. He is the author of the book and video Beyond Horse Massage, Dressage Movements Revealed, and the video Light to the Core.
Patrick King, a USDF Bronze and Silver Medalist, has devoted his life to learning and teaching great horsemanship, with a passion for dressage and classical equestrian ideals. As an apprentice to Ray Hunt early in his career, he developed the ability to help horses learn to be confident partners with the human. Later, new teachers introduced the biomechanics of the horse and the influence that has on feel and timing. This combination of working with the horse on the inside as well as the outside, psychologically and physically, really helps us to understand a more "total package." What Patrick teaches riders is more of a mind-set than a method, with the primary focus being on building the horse's confidence and clarity. His blend of classical in-hand work is frequently utilized for both rehabilitation and athletic development.

The afternoon session is dedicated to helping participants with finding and releasing tension in their horses, through in-hand work and bodywork, recognizing the interconnection of mental and physical tension.

Day two is about the building blocks of in-hand work, and helping the horse to release tension in essential core muscles, and in the muscles of key junctions of the body that affect movement and performance.
Participants will gain a solid working understanding of the fundamental steps and focused exercises for in-hand work. Along with this, they'll learn to recognize and release areas of their horse's bodies that are limiting freedom of movement and causing physical and mental tension.
Carrying your fundamentals forward, day three prepares you for more specific work in-hand, relatable to working with more collection and engagement. This final day "brings it all together" and helps participants find the full flow of energy in the horse’s body.

Participants will now have the ability to “unkink the hose” when physical and mental tension cause blockages.
As a final culmination, Sunday afternoon ends with an introduction to doing the in-hand work in the bridle, and an open Q&A session.
